Topaz rates an 8 on the Mohs scale of gemstone hardness. The gemstone topaz is actually found in a wide range of colors including red, orange, peach, pink, gold, yellow, brown and crystal (colorless). Natural pale blue topaz gemstones used in jewelry manufacturing are routinely irradiated as a color enhancement treatment. Such color treatment is permanent and does not wear away nor fade with time.
