Welcome to our Emerald Heart Ring page. Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May as well as a suggested gift for the 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries and a suggested alternative gift for the 55th wedding anniversary. Emerald is a form of the mineral beryl (along with the gemstone aquamarine) and is considered a precious gemstone along with sapphire, ruby and diamond.

Emerald is, by nature, a very included (very internally flawed) gemstone, rating a 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale of gemstone hardness, however more prone to cracks and breakage than similarly rated gemstones because of its internal flaws. Emeralds are routinely 'oiled' as a clarity enhancement treatment - a treatment so prevalent in gem quality emeralds that it is assumed by the jewelry industry itself that the majority of emerald jewelry has undergone clarity enhancement treatment.

Because of their included nature, emeralds should be worn and treated with care and never subjected to ultrasonic cleaning treatments, because the intense vibration involved with ultrasonic cleaning can fracture or even break an emerald.
