Peridot is the name given to gem quality Olivine, which is one of the most common minerals on earth. This gemstone rates a 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale of gemstone hardness.

According to legend, Cleopatra is said to have adored this lovely gem and it is believed that some of the Egyptian queen's beloved 'emeralds' were, in fact, peridot. In any event, this gemstone's beautiful, clear green color and the sparkle and clarity it exhibits makes it a favorite among jewelry collectors.
